It started with a conversation…
In late February 2016, our founder Sean Michael was lamenting the lack of a single source for theatre information in St. Louis. He wanted a full calendar, information about venues, news, opinions, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. His audience was Scott Miller, artistic director of New Line Theatre. Scott told Sean, “Why don’t you do it?” He did.
The Scene Shop is the result of that evening, the brain-child of Sean. As of today, we cover 34 professional companies and 7 play festivals. Our goal is to cover ALL the theatres of the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan region.
The Scene Shop is the first and only comprehensive online news magazine providing the Greater St. Louis Metropolitan region with St. Louis theatre news, a calendar of upcoming local theatre, details on venues and nearby dining and drinking, personal one-on-one interviews with St. Louis theatre artists on and off stage, and lots of other, one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes glimpses into how live theatre is made in our region. The Scene Shop strives to be a voice and advocate for St. Louis theatre and theatre artists, not only across the region but throughout the country, as the only aggregate news and entertainment source of its kind serving the St. Louis area.
Why did you start this blog?
Two reasons: (1) To offer St. Louis theatre-goers of all stripes a place for behind-the-scenes information found nowhere else; and (2) to create a mouthpiece and advocate for St. Louis on a larger stage.
Where are you located?
Our current home-base is St. Charles, MO, but we are searching for an office space somewhere in St. Louis.
Why can’t I find links to or calendar information about the community theatres?
See Sean Michael’s post Why Only Professionals?
Do you review shows?
No. There are a lot of reviewers in St. Louis who do a good job. Head to the St. Louis Theatre Circle Facebook page for links to all of their reviews.
How can I get in contact with the people in charge of the blog?
